Fellowship – Introduction Form

The Sora Kaufman fellowship is an Advocates for Community Alternatives’ flagship program to establish a network of African leaders and practitioners in the field of community-driven development and advocacy .It targets practitioners who collaborate with relevant stakeholders to tackle community and systemic challenges that hinder accessibility and involvement of citizens in decision making. The fellowship shall build global expertise in areas of collective action,
advocacy, human rights and local governance systems.
The Sora Kaufman Fellowship is a practicum that emphasizes mutual exchanges of existing leadership skills, and networking to solve common community-driven challenges to improve on people centered approaches for development in Africa.

Duration

Duration: 12 Months (6 weeks residential training and exchanges, 10 months non-residential independent project implementation and monitoring).

Obejectives

  •  Provide integrated training on implementation of community-driven development and advocay programs in African countries.
  •  Build deeper relationships with fellow members to exchange knowledge and experiences on community-driven development centered programs.
  •  Nurture African leaders to adapt and scale up community-driven development approaches in their home communities.
  • Recruit practitioners who are ready to contribute to the regional knowledge base on community-driven development through data collection and publication of lessons learned.

Eligibility criteria

  •  Must be an African and reside in any of the African countries.
  • A minimum of five years full time working professional in NGO /local government environment.
  • Can articulate in English and any local language of their African communities.
  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree.
  • High chance of receiving study leave from their employer.
  • Demonstrated commitment to community service and social work.
  • Has a good understanding of community driven-development initiatives.
  • Applicant must represent a local civil society organization that is prepared to undertake community-driven initiatives.
